A Year of Youth Success
at 3 Wise Monkeys Climbing
What a fantastic year for our youth climbers. From our opening day to today, we have seen massive accomplishments from the young people that come to Three Wise Monkeys Climbing.
Our clubs have now been running for a year and we are seeing more and more of the young climbers achieving awards. NICAS (National Indoor Climbing Award Scheme) is a climbing certificate achieved through determination, commitment and enthusiam. They have to learn how to climb efficiently but also to look after their own and each others safety on increasingly more challenging climbs. We currently have groups working toward levels 1-4, which is a huge success in one year of the wall being open.
During the winter we ran a series of competitions open to anyone. The young climbers showed extraordinary dtermination to compete. Owen Pescod competed in the mens categories and claimed 1st prize in the Men’s easy series. In the hotly contested female youth category, Megan Pescod claimed 1st prize, Kaiya Clarke came 2nd and Rianne Gilchrist came 3rd. In the male youth category, Craig Allott came 1st, Archie Macintyre came 2nd and Cameron Overend came 3rd. In the under 8’s Katie Pescod stormed to victory.
Over Easter we ran outdoor sessions that tackled every type of weather to explore the outdoor climbing in Glen Nevis. Special mention to Katie Kirk who came several times and showed great resilience in the rain and on the rock!
Every young climber at the wall, whether involved in the clubs, in the competitions or just popping into the wall every now and again make our climbing community incredibly proud. They are supportive and encouraging not only to each other but to the regular adult climbers. It is very inspiring for the staff at Three Wise Monkeys to glance in to see young and old climbers alike sharing ideas, achievments and cookies!
