Over the last year, we’ve had multiple requests to stock the La Sportiva Miura – the classic lace up performance shoe from La Sportiva. It’s been helping climbers tick hard routes for 20 years, and to celebrate, for one year only – La Sportiva have teamed up with Adam Ondra to design and release the Miura XX – which we’re delighted to say is in stock at Three Wise Monkeys Climbing, while stocks last as there are no plans to make any more.
What is it, and who is it for?
The Miura XX is a stiff and downturned lace up performance climbing shoe – it is designed with a stiffer foot platform than the original Miura, but is based on the same last, so if the Miura fits, the Miura XX should also fit. It’s an ideal shoe for climbing harder routes and problems indoors and out, and tends to be seen worn most commonly on rock that provides small edges (like our local Schists) rather than rock that relies more on smearing, like grit or sandstone.
OK, so what’s the difference?
The Miura XX (apart from being black and shiny) mainly differs from the classic Miura in the sole under the toes. The Miura XX uses a sole stiffener that in practice makes it easier to pull with your toes and stand on smaller edges. It should in practice mean that the shoe maintains its stiffness for longer than the classic Miura, which tends to move quite quickly from performance to good all rounder after a couple of weeks climbing at the wall.
The Miura XX also has modified lacing from the original Miura which leaves more room for shoe contact when toe hooking – this doesn’t seem to affect the fit of the shoe, but might do if you’re usually wearing Miuras that are a bit baggy in the toe-box and taking out the slack with lacing – if this is the case you may prefer to stick to the original Miura or try the new Kataki from La Sportiva.
We have a pair of Miura XXs on test by a member of staff, and we will comment on durability and any further information as we find out more about the shoe.
From La Sportiva:
“This signature edition style of the classic Miura celebrates the 20th anniversary of the climbing shoe and the athlete who has helped its evolution: Adam Ondra. As precise, firm and structured as always with the added advantage of the P3® Platform. This shoe is available for one year only, and supplies are limited!”
The Miura XX is only available in our in store shop – although if you know your size you could order over the phone on 01397600200. We sell the Miura XX for £120, and as far as we know we are the only stockist in Scotland.
